The I Can Write Program gets your child writing and expressing themselves with confidence. It combines the most recent research in Play-Based Learning with evidence-based direct instruction to get your child writing and spelling at grade level (while ALSO having fun)!

Learning spelling patterns through unicorn adventure games!

4-15 year old students identified by their teachers as a struggling writer. (This program is especially for students who do not like writing!) No formal IEP is required.

Yes! Unlike other writing programs or tutoring services, this program is designed to be accessible for students with attention needs who often struggle to engage with learning activities. In our classes, we use fun games AND our favourite characters to help us learn to write!

For a child who needs a little extra support in learning to become a confident writer, it is understandable that they might have a strong reaction to being asked to complete writing tasks that are above their writing skill level.
This program uses evidence-based writing instruction to scaffold your child in their skill development. This means I use your child’s diagnostic assessment and progress monitoring reports to identify and remediate the foundational skill gaps that are stopping them from successfully engaging with grade level writing activities. There are many different skills required to communicate successfully through writing. For example, some students might have a skill gap in printing, while others might have a skill gap in spelling or writing processes. By remediating your child’s specific skill gaps, we are removing the barriers that are making writing difficult for them. We also follow a sequential model in which your child will only be given writing activities that are at their writing level. This leads to high levels of success, skill development and feelings of confidence!
The writing activities and games in this program will also be personalized to your child’s interests, leading to higher levels of engagement and motivation than other tutoring services. (Many of my students have even asked to have a class on their birthday!)

The I Can Write Program can be combined with the Math is for Me Program and/or the Reading Booster Program to best support your child’s learning needs. We can discuss the best plan to support your child’s learning during the intake meeting.

Yes! Since 2020, the I Can Write Program has been delivered virtually and has supported students from all across Canada! The virtual format has allowed families to conveniently connect from home, while innovative virtual design has accelerated both student progress and engagement.
The in-person I Can Write Program is available for students located in Vancouver, British Columbia.

My approach combines evidence-based direct instruction with the evidence-based practices of Play-Based Learning.
This means my approach is guided by evidence from scientific research about what works in helping students become confident writers. It’s teaching students effective writing skills using the best instructional methods available, not the best marketed “writing programs” available. All classes and material provided are created using evidence-based instructional strategies that target foundational skills for long-term writing success.
